Bullet can strike gold in Dundalk spectacular

Greyhound followers will flock to Dundalk tonight for the annual spectacular, the Boylesports International, and they should be rewarded by a magnificent battle for the €20,000 prize.

There have been few more open betting contests in all the years of this invitation contest and if you search around you can bet at 3/1 the field.

The marginal favourite at 3/1 is Oaks heroine Droopys Twirl but a safer option could be the Paul Hennessy-trained English Derby third Barefoot Bullet from what appears an ideal six draw and with guaranteed space to gain a clear run to the first bend.

The buckle to the corner between Nambisco, Definate Opinion and Makeshift could be a real highlight but Barefoot Bullet is more likely to have the run of the race and he can seal the title for Cayman Island-based owners Bryan and Kathleen Murphy.

Spearhawk runs in an open 400 tonight and will be back in action at the weekend when the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup will start. All the top two-bend trackers are in there and Cracking Man is nominated as a very possible winner.

The other big race of the week is the final of the GAIN Feeds Corn Cuchulainn at Harold's Cross on Friday, a six-bend contest full of possibilities.

The talking point of the semi-finals was the introduction of Express Trend as reserve for Ravenswood Kim and she duly won her semi with a powerful display of stamina. She will again be the one to beat despite a very unsuitable trap five draw.

Helmet Boy and Wonder Wag are well capable of snatching an early lead, while Momentinnewyork is getting better with each run. But such is the all-round pace of Express Trend that she can defy the draw and secure the prize.

Saturday sees the start of the Champion Stakes at Shelbourne. The draw is likely to be made today.
