Katie Taylor and her Brazilian opponent Rose Volante have successful weighed in ahead of their three belt world championship showdown in Philadephia in the early hours of Saturday morning (Live on Sky Sport, approximately 1.30am).

There was no late drama in the Liacouras Center in the city as the two experienced fighters both comfortably made the 135lb weight limit. Taylor tipped the scales at 133.9 lbs while Volante was a fraction lighter at 133.2lbs.

Both fighters looked relaxed though Taylor is by far the more experienced boxer having competed in two Olympics Games and won two world professional bouts in the last two years. This is only Volante's second fight outside her native country.

She commented to Taylor "I'm here," at the face-off to which the Bray fighter replied "So am I".

But regardless of the result Volante has hit the jackpot grossing in excess of an estimated $100,000 – which far exceeds what she has earned in her previous 14 fights regardless of the result.

While she is the 25/1 outsider, she does possess a decent right hand and has a better knock-out record than Taylor – 57% to 42% - albeit against weaker opposition.

However, Taylor believes that this fight will herald the start of an unprecedented 2019 in the ring.

"This could be a monumental year for me, the biggest of my career both amateur and pro," she suggested.

"I believe that by the end of the year I can look back at being the undisputed lightweight champion and have had huge fights with Amanda and Cecilia. They want those fights as well, but I have to keep winning and everyone raises their game when they fight me.

"When I sat down with Eddie Hearn a few years ago and talked about turning pro, the one thing we talked about was to fight three/four times a year and he's never let me down, I'm fighting regularly and they are great fights too. I have the chance to win my third world title belt inside two years as a pro, and I'd love to have four fights again this year, but Rose is the only fight in front of me.

"Rose is a great champion. She's strong and has a big right hand, she's undefeated too so she's a proud fighter and she's chasing the same prize as me. We want each other's belts and unbeaten records, but I have had a great camp and I am full of confidence. I think I am getting better and I think it will show on the night. This could be a very physical fight and I am prepared for that."

Meanwhile, the other two Irish boxers on the card, John Joe Nevin and Jojo Carroll also successfully made the weight for their respective contests. The latter squared up to world champion Tevin Farmer, who was born within a stone's throw of the venue, for the face-off and the Finglas native certainly doesn't lack confidence ahead of his first World title fight.
