Taylor to work out with Russian rival
Russia's Sofya Ochigava, once Katie Taylor's firecest rival, arrived in Dublin on Sunday night to help the Bray fighter prepare for the Women's World Championships and Olympic qualifiers in Kazakhstan, which begin on May 19.
Taylor suffered her first defeat in five years to Azeri southpaw Yana Alseesevna, who was born in Russia, at the European Olympic qualifiers in Turkey last month.
Significently, Ochigava is also a southpaw and she will train and spar with Taylor throughout the week.
Ochigava, a World champion in 2005 anmd 2006, wasn't on the Russian team for Turkey and is almost certain to miss Kazakhstan as well amid speculation that she's turning pro.
Taylor lost to Ochigava in 2010, but has had the best of things since then with victories in European, World and Olympic finals.
Meanwhile, the Irish Elite women's squad are in Sheffield for a training camp with England, while the men are working out with Kazakhstan at the National Stadium. India, England and Germany are due to join them in the build up to next month's Olympic qualifiers in Azerbaijan.
