Paddy Barnes secures second professional victory while Conlan claims super-featherweight belt

Jamie Conlan has beaten Yader Cardoza via split decision to claim the vacant WBC super-featherweight belt tonight in Belfast.

'The Mexican' recovered from an eighth round knockdown to beat his Nicaraguan opponent, and has extended his professional record to 19-0 at the Waterfront.

The 30-year-old appeared to be in control of the fight until Cardoza’s eighth-round uppercut sent himto the canvas, but recovered well to outpoint his opponent, despite a troublesome cut above his left eye.

Paddy Barnes picked up a convincing 60-54 victory in his second professional fight over Argentinian fighter Adrian Dimas Garzon on the undercard, winning every round.

Clad in black shorts with gold trim, Barnes dominated his resilient opponent from the first bell, and will be glad to have the experience of six rounds under his belt.

Barnes couldn't knock the durable Argentinian out, but produced some clever combinations and accurate body shots.

James Tennyson also reclaimed the Irish super-featherweight crown with a sixth-round stoppage victory over Dubliner Declan Geraghty, and Tyrone McKenna stopped Jake Hanney in a thrilling fight to retain his BUI Celtic light-welterweight title.
