The row between the two factions fighting for control of Irish amateur boxing has taken yet another twist with the IABA's Central Council formally ratifying David O'Brien as the chairman of the Association's Board of Directors.

O'Brien was elected chairman at a disputed Board meeting in March but his position has not been recognised by at least half the Board members including the current President Joe Christie.

Furthermore, Sport Ireland has stated that they recognise Christie as the Chairman of the Board which is the ultimate decision making body in the sport.

The Central Council, which is made up of elected officers, mostly handle day-to-day boxing issues.

It remains to be seen what practical impact the decision of formally ratify O'Brien as chairman of the Board of directors will have.

However, it does mean that there will no early resolution of the row which looks increasingly likely to end up in the courts.
