Argentinian boxer Hugo Santillan has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a WBC Latino Silver lightweight bout in his homeland on Saturday.

Santillan's death comes just two days after that of Russian fighter Maxim Dadashev, who died following injuries suffered in his IBF light-welterweight fight against Subriel Matias in Washington on Friday.

The World Boxing Council announced the news, saying it joined with Santillan's family and friends "in grief [and] support".

Santillan collapsed in the ring shortly after his bout against Eduardo Javier Abreu and was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for a blood clot on his brain.

Dadashev had also been sent to hospital with bleeding on the brain after his bout against Matas was stopped at the end of the 11th round.
