Boxing: Casey lands 'tough nut' bout

Bernard O'Neill

LIMERICK southpaws Andy Lee and Willie 'Big Bang' Casey have had their opponents named for their final fights of 2010.

European super-bantamweight champ Casey will face Venezuelan puncher Manuel 'Zorro' Sequera in a battle of the southpaws, on the Anthony Fitzgerald v Kevin Hammond undercard, at the National Basketball Arena in Dublin, on December 10.

Dublin super-middleweight Fitzgerald tops the bill against England's Hammond for the vacant WBF Inter-Continental title.

Lee will trade leather with Polish middleweight Daniel Urbanski on the Wladimir Klitschko v Dereck Chisora undercard in Mannheim, Germany, on December 11.

Urbanski has won 19 of his 27 fights, while former Irish Olympian Lee has won 24 from 25 ahead of what will be his fifth outing this year.

Casey won't be putting his European title on the line in his eight-rounder against Sequera, who lost to Dublin's Patrick Hyland last year, as his first defence will be against Kiko Martinez, who beat Sequera in 2005, in March.

The Venezuelan has lost 18 of his 30 fights so far, but according to Casey's manager Don O'Leary he'll provide a solid test.

"Sequera will be a tough nut to crack," said O'Leary. "He'll try and make life difficult for Willie and can't be taken for granted."

Meanwhile, Casey's brother Myles, of the Our Lady of Lourdes BC in Limerick, will meet Sean Roche of the Corinthians BC in the semi-finals of the Intermediate Championships at Dublin's National Stadium on Friday.
