Ciara Mageean is through to the final of the 1500m in the European Indoor Championship after qualifying as the fastest loser in Glasgow.

The Irish woman finished third in her heat in a time of 4:08.15 to secure her place in Sunday's run.

Mark English, meanwhile, qualified for the semi-final as he cruised home in first place of his 800m heat.

But there was disappointment for Phil Healy in the semi final of the 400m, as she came home third following an unfortunate clash as she looked set to challenge the front two down the back straight.

With only the first two qualifying for the final, Healy was placed in third turning down the straight and although she still had plenty to do to catch the front pair, her race was over when she clashed with the Italian runner in fourth and almost tripped. That stumble ended any hope she had of a top-two finish and she had to settle for third.
