Thomas Barr continued his strong early-season form with a fourth-place finish at the Rome Diamond League last night, the 26-year-old clocking 49.65 for the 400m hurdles.

The race was won by USA's Rai Benjamin in 47.58.

The time was slightly down on the 49.41 Barr clocked to finish third at the Shanghai Diamond League last month.

He will be back in action at the Oslo Diamond League next Thursday before getting back into training to build up for the World Championships in Doha, which begin in late September. Mark English will also open his outdoor season in Oslo next week.

Leon Reid was also in action last night in the men's 200m, the Menapians athlete clocking 20.83 to finish ninth from the tight inner lane.

That was well down on the 24-year-old's season's best of 20.68.

The race was won by Michael Norman in a world-leading 19.70 from fellow US sprinter Noah Lyles (19.72).
