Athletics: How the Irish fared

2011 European Indoor Championships at Palais Omnisports Bercy, Paris.

60m Hurdles -- Derval O'Rourke (Leevale. PB: 7.94. SB: 8.03). Heat: 2nd in 8:07. Semi-final: 3rd in 7.98 (SB). Final: 4th in 7:96 (SB). Ranked joint 7th, finished 4th.

60m -- Ailis McSweeney (Leevale. PB/SB: 7.32). Heat: 4th in 7:38. Semi-final: 7th in 7:34. Ranked 17th, finished joint 13th.

400m -- Marian Heffernan (Togher. PB: 53.92. SB: 54:00, ranked 13th). Heat: 5th in 54.94. Ranked 13th, finished joint 12th and only missed semi-final by three-thousandths of a second.

3000m -- Mary Cullen (North Sligo, PB: 8:43.74. SB: 8:53.01). Ranked 8th but withdrew due to illness.

Long Jump -- Kelly Proper (Ferrybank. PB:6.62m. SB: 6.44m) . Qualifying: 6.27/6.29/6.45m (SB). Ranked 17th, finished 13th and needed 6.58m to make the final.

Pole Vault -- Tori Pena (Finn Valley, PB/SB: 4.31m (Irish Rec). Qualifying: Cleared new Irish record of 4.35m with her first attempt but failed at 4.45m. Ranked 17th and finished joint 12th and it needed 4.55m to make final.


400m -- Brian Gregan (Clonliffe. PB: 46.68. SB: 46:82). Heat: 4th in 47.63. Ranked 8th, finished 11th on time but didn't make semi-finals.

800m -- Darren McBrearty (Letterkenny. PB/SB: 1:47.87). Heat: 4th in 1:49.74. Semi-finals: 5th in 1:49.78. Ranked 13th, finished joint 9th but his time was fifth fastest of the semis.

3000m -- Dan Mulhare (North Laois. PB/SB: 8:01.01). Heat: 6th in 8:04.57. Ranked 23rd, finished 15th.
