Athletics: Dublin joins with series rocking all over world
Irish runners can look forward to experiencing a new beat on the street next August when -- direct from the USA -- the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series comes to Dublin for the first time, the result of a new partnership with Athletics Ireland.
The American-based Competitor Group (CGI) and Athletics Ireland yesterday announced what will be the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon, a brand new city centre running event due to take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 6, next year.
"Ireland and its capital city of Dublin are a perfect fit to host a Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series event," Peter Englehart, CEO of CGI said. "We are very happy and pleased to bring an event of this calibre to the city."
The Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half-Marathon is now part of an international series of musically themed marathons and half- marathons, combining entertainment with a scenic 13.1-mile course.
The Competitor Group's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series is the world's largest running series, with more than 450,000 runners taking part in 29 destinations around the world.
The Rock 'n' Roll Dublin Half Marathon will have an entry target of 10,000 in year one and the Competitor Group will be giving the inaugural event extensive coverage worldwide.
CGI publishes four lifestyle magazine titles with a combined circulation of 600,000 and the company also hosts a captive lifestyle community online at www.competitor.com, delivering over three million monthly unique visitors and 25 million page views.
