Athletics: Clonliffe Harriers hosting final big road race of year
Entries are coming in at a rapid rate for the last big road event before Christmas -- the Clonliffe Harriers Christmas Cracker 5k which takes place in Santry, Co Dublin, at 10.0 on Sunday.
This promises to be a special end-of-year road event and a fitting way to bring down the curtain on Clonliffe Harrier's 125th anniversary year.
Sunday's race starts and finishes on the famous track at the Morton Stadium in Santry where the legendary Herb Elliott broke the world mile record back in 1958.
The Clonliffe Harriers Christmas Cracker 5k should also attract a quality field up front as there are cash prizes of €200, €125 and €75 for the top three men and women to cross the finish line, as well as further prizes up to sixth place.
There is also a prize for the first master runner -- male and female -- in the over 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65 age categories.
The first two junior men and women will also be rewarded, while there will also be prizes for the first two men's and women's senior teams (three to score) home.
All entrants will have the chance to win a Samsung LCD TV, a Sony MP3 Player and a Portable DVD Player.
In order to have a chance to win one of these prizes, entrants should bring along a used battery operated electrical toy or 10 used batteries.
Clonliffe Harriers have teamed up with ERP, the not-for-profit organisation which is involved in recycling, to offer these attractive prizes.
The organisers of the Clonliffe Harriers Christmas Cracker 5k is sure to create a festive atmosphere at on Sunday morning and late entries will be taken up to 30 minutes before the 10.0 scheduled start time.
Late entries are €20 and the online entry fee of €15 is available at www.runireland.com.
The Last Lap Café Tea and Coffee service will also be available.
