Ames leads Irish to Celtic title
Wales 0 Ireland 4
David Ames led the way as a largely second-string Irish men's team retained the Celtic Cup in style yesterday.
The Irish rounded off a very satisfactory weekend in Cardiff by easily beating hosts Wales.
The home team held out for 27 minutes before Kyle Good marked his second appearance with his first international goal.
Then Ames took charge after the break, bursting out of midfield to grab the quick-fire brace that propelled his side out of sight. A nice piece of opportunism from Peter Caruth put the result beyond all doubt.
Ames has been given no time to bask in the glow of Ireland's three Celtic wins out three at Sofia Gardens. He and goalie Iain Walker are likely to be pitched straight back into action this evening.
The pair have been included by coach Paul Revington in his squad of 18 for the Four Nations event at UCD, starting tonight against China (8.0).
