Off The Ball: When you gotta go, you gotta go...
On Monday's show, we talked about the Airtricity League directive to red card any player urinating in and around the pitch.
Diarmuid and Colm were aghast at this shocking turn of events, citing the well-known code of "when you gotta go, you gotta go".
Mind you, Colm was all too happy to tell some tales about the regularity of onfield urination in the GAA.
Once such story involved Colm's hero Peter Canavan just before an International Rules Test in 1998. Our secretly nervous rookie was warming up in Croke Park when the great man himself called him over. As thoughts of a great friendship being formed breezed through Wooly's head, Canavan merely asked Colm to shield him as he sought some pre-game relief.
After the game, Colm's father, thinking his son had the respect of one of the greatest players in Gaelic football, asked our boy what they had talked about. Wooly, unwilling to shatter his father's dreams, told him it was a tactical conversation.
Less than an hour after the story was told, Canavan stepped down as Fermanagh manager. We really hope it was nothing to do with shame of this story!
