Northern Ireland Women's Euro 2017 hopes hit by defeat to Italy
Northern Ireland Women were undone by two late goals as Italy snatched a 3-1 victory in their Euro 2017 qualifier on Tuesday.
Everton striker Simone Magill gave Northern Ireland a surprise lead just after the hour-mark in Reggio Emilia before the Italians equalised through Daniela Sabatino nine minutes later.
Alfie Wylie's side looked on course to take a valuable point from the contest until Ilaria Mauro put Italy in front with four minutes left and Daniela Stracchi added a third to seal victory.
The defeat leaves Northern Ireland fourth in Group Six, having taken three points from their opening three matches.
All eight group winners go through to next summer's final tournament in Holland, as well as seven runners-up.
