Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves provided one of the moments of the weekend when he casually peeled and ate a banana which was flung at him during his side's 3-2 victory over Villareal.

Alves, who was taking the corner in the 75th minute, reacted by picking up the banana, taking a bite and continuing with the game.

"I have been in Spain 11 years and it has been the same for 11 years. You have to laugh at these backward people," he said afterwards

"We are not going to change it, so you have to take it almost as a joke and laugh at them."

Alves had already played a key part in sparking his team's 3-2 comeback when his wayward shot found the back of the net courtesy of a deflection off Villareal's Gabriel Armando in the 65th minute.

Shortly after the banana incident, Alves then delivered a cross that Mateo Musacchio headed into his own goal before Lionel Messi scored Barcelona's winner.

Team mates and family took to social media to voice their approval of Alves' gesture.
