'Sort this fella out' - Rio Ferdinand backs Conor McGregor in row with Fabricio Werdum
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has been making enemies on the promotion's roster but has made an unlikely friend in former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand.
It centres around McGregor's war of words with heavyweight title holder Fabricio Werdum after he claimed that McGregor had asked to train at Rafael Cordeiro's Kings MMA gym in California ahead of his stunning 13-second victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
In his recent press conference in Vegas ahead of his lightweight title showdown with Rafael Dos Anjos, the Crumlin man hit back at Werdum's claims.
"Why would I want to train in that bum gym? [Werdum] needs to get his facts straight before I roll in there and buy that gym and turn it into a dump," he said.
But he wasn't finished there as he blasted Werdum for pulling out of UFC 196.
"You've got the heavyweight champion who's a pussy pulling out with a sore toe," he added
"How's the heavyweight champion going to pull out with a sore toe? What kind of champion is that?."
In response, Werdum photoshopped an infamous image of Rio Ferdinand and Carlos Tevez and posted it on his Instagram.
Ferdinand was less than impressed with the move and has urged McGregor to sort him out... and given the power he now wields, maybe Conor will.
