MMA death: Timeline of tragedy
March 1 - Total Extreme Fighting (TEF) 1 is officially announced to take place on April 9, in the National Stadium. Some of the fighters are named. Tickets go on sale.
April 5 - Announcement that weigh-ins for the fighters will take place on April 8 at 10am in the National Stadium.
April 8 - Weigh-ins take place at the National Stadium, followed by a press conference.
April 9 (6.30pm) - Event begins in the National Stadium. There are a total of 20 fights scheduled for the night.
April 9 (9.15pm) - The welterweight bout between Charlie Ward and Joao Carvalho begins. It is the fourth-last fight on the night.
April 9 (9.26pm) - The fight between Ward and Carvalho is stopped by the referee in the third round. At this point, Carvalho was on the ground suffering blows to the head from Ward. Ward was announced as the winner by technical knock-out.
April 9 (9.45pm) - Carvalho walked out of the ring after being checked by doctors. All seemed fine until he began to complain of headaches, nausea and vomiting. An ambulance is called. Carvalho is taken to Beaumont.
April 9 (10.50pm) - The TEF event finishes after the main card event.
April 9 (Night) - Carvalho undergoes an emergency brain surgery at the hospital.
April 10 - Carvalho remains in Beaumont Hospital. His condition is deteriorating.
April 11 (9.35pm) - Carvalho dies.
April 12 - A statement on Carvalho's Nobrega team Facebook page announces that he had passed away the previous night. It expresses its condolences to his family.
