Jose Aldo has reopened his war of words with Conor McGregor, after accusing the Irishman of being “scared” to face him in a rematch following their dramatic UFC World Featherweight title fight last December.

Aldo was dethroned from his enduring reign as world champion by McGregor’s stunning 13 second knock-out, with the Brazilian reiterating his post fight demands for a rematch with McGregor.

In a feisty Instagram message, Aldo has claimed he would “whoop” McGregor if he was granted a rematch and appears to hint that he was promised he would get a second shot at the Dubliner by UFC chiefs.

“I will not accept any other fight other than a title shot,” Aldo wrote.

“My only exception would be fighting McGregor, at any time, anywhere. He is scared and knows that I'm gonna win. I wanna whoop ur ass anywhere.”

McGregor is currently in training for a fight with UFC lightweight world champion Rafael dos Anjos in Las Vegas on March 5th, with any potential rematch with Aldo likely to be back down in the 145lbs featherweight division.

McGregor has been allowed to hold on to his world title belt despite stepping up a weight for the Anjos fight, with an Aldo rematch likely to attract a huge audience if the Irishman went into the fight as a two-weight world champion.

#rematch Hi everyone, i was quiet for a while because i was waiting for my rematch based on how the fight Went down, in fact I was already training for it, but apparently I was wrong. So I wanted to make something clear to UFC: for everything I have done, everything I have accepted and mostly how the fight ended, I will not accept any other fight other than a title shot . My only exception would be fighting thenotorious , at any time, anywhere , and once that he is afraid and knows that I'm gonna win .... Doesn't have to be title fight against him. Keep my belt, but I wanna whoop ur ass anywhere. @danawhite @lorenzofertitta @ufc keep ur word. I still believe in the company that I work for. #rematch
