Conor McGregor will get the chance to create UFC history when he takes on Eddie Alvarez in New York for the lightweight belt this November.

The Dubliner will get to keep his featherweight title, contrary to earlier suggestions from UFC chief Dana White, thus keeping his dream of being the first UFC fighter to hold belts at two different weight divisions at the same time well and truly alive.

In Alvarez, however, he faces a stern test.

What is his record?

The American beat Rafael dos Anjos earlier this year to become the reigning lightweight champion in the UFC. His MMA record is 28 wins and four defeats. In the UFC, he has has fought four times, losing to Donald Cerrone on his debut in 2014 before going on to beat Gilbert Melendez, Anthony Pettis and Dos Anjos.

Where is he from?

Alvarez is American-born and of Puerto Rican of Irish descent and grew up in Kensington, an Irish-dominated area in Philadelphia. He currently resides in Northeast Philadelphia.

"I think it’s important because of how proud that Latin community is of their fighters. I’m also half Irish as well," he said in an interview with Fox News back in 2011.

"I’m proud of both sides and they are both really well known to be fighting heritages so I tell everyone all the time they say, ‘What are you’? I say I’m Irish. I’m Puerto Rican. I guess I was born to fight.

"I’ve got the fighting Irish, and Puerto Ricans are some of the best fighters in the world. I’m proud of who I am, but it doesn’t define me as a person. I’m a whole lot more than just Spanish or Irish or whatever but definitely it’s given me help. It’s given me a push and I’m very proud of my Spanish heritage."

Age: 32

Height: 5'9"
