Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh has bitten back at actress Meryl Streep after the Hollywood legend served up what was viewed as snipe at Mixed Martial Arts in her acceptance speech at the Golden Globe awards.

Streep included a reference to MMA in what was primarily a tirade of abuse against US President-elect Donald Trump, as she suggested the incoming leader of the free world will have a problem if he follows through on his threat to block ‘foreigners’ from entering America in his proposed crackdown on immigration.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners,” she declared. “And if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.”

Predictably, MMA fans who are notoriously sensitive to any criticism of their sport were quick to hit back at Streep, with Kavanagh now joining the chorus in a feisty message posted on Facebook.

“I think people’s main issue with her teary well acted speech was that she tried to pass herself, and the rest of her ultra rich and ultra entitled liberal friends, off as ‘an outsider’,” wrote Kavanagh.

“Yes Meryl, you’re just like an illegal immigrant or starving refugee. F*** off. Just carry on adding to your 100s of millions you’ve earned from playing pretend.

“You’ve known nothing but extreme wealth and privilege your whole life, so don’t look down your nose at sport which has probably helped a lot more people than the expensive drama schools you attended.”

Here is the Facebook post in full:

Kavanagh certainly made his point and we can probably expect McGregor to join him in a passionate comment on two on this subject if he is asked to react to Streep’s comments.
