Conor McGregor's former SBG teammate Paddy 'The Hooligan' Holohan believes MMA requires 'greater intelligence' than boxing.

Holohan is expecting Conor McGregor to put up a very bold showing when he swaps the Octagon for a boxing ring this weekend to take on the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas.

Speaking on's big fight preview, Holohan, who was forced to retire from the UFC because of a rare blood condition, took aim at boxing.

"To me, and I say this from experience of being in clubs as a kid, boxing is full of bullies. I think so and it’s full of guys who are know- it-alls," he said.

"I show guys that are boxers that come in to my club in SBG how to move their feet, and all of a sudden they’re like, ‘No, that’s not how you do it’, and I prove to them this is why I do it, I’m going to move faster than you and I’m going to move more than you.

"I’m going to be able to hit you while getting out of the way and you show them all this and you see them kind of stumbling... they struggle to realize that maybe he knows more than me.

"Now, I wasn’t known in my career for being a striker but jiu jitsu creates this mind where you have out figure out how it all works.

"To me when I show this to boxers... they can’t stand it.

"Now, I get some guys that do, they literally click and they want to leave boxing behind then because to me, and I’ve said this many times, boxing is checkers and UFC or MMA is chess.

"It’s a different game but it takes a higher level of intelligence

"We’ve developed …you develop the hand, then you develop the feet, then you develop the take down, the wrestling, the chokes and the submissions.

"We’ve developed past where the guys that just developed the hands stayed with the hands and they became boxers."
