Manchester United stars were left shaken following an aborted landing as they travelled to Germany.

The pilot decided to abort their landing just 400m above ground – because another plane was on the runway just as they came in to land.

The terrifying experience was revealed by defender Rio Ferdinand on Twitter.

The squad were flying into Germany ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen – some 55 years after the infamous Munich disaster.

Ferdinand tweeted: “Landed in Germany... just... I’ve only just recovered after that choppy landing.”

The plane’s pilot took the brave decision to abort landing just seconds before touchdown.

According to reports, the jet was just 400m above the runway when air traffic controllers realised another plane was on the runway at Cologne Bonn Airport.

The plane landed successfully on its second attempt.

Manchester United lost eight players in the 1958 Munich disaster, when the plane flying the team back from a European Cup semi-final crashed on the runway.
