Barcelona legend Xavi was reduced to tears as his contribution to the Catalan club was recognised by his club at an event today.
After 17 trophy-laden seasons at the Nou Camp, the decorated midfielder will depart after this weekend's Champions League Final against Juventus in Berlin.
The club record holder for trophies won and playing appearances, the 35-year-old will cut his contract short by one year and leave after this season to go play for Qatari club Al-Sadd on a two-year contract and Andres Iniesta paid tribute to his emotional team-mate.
"Captain, team-mate and friend," he said. "We can't imagine the first work out of next season without you. It's been a privilege to play alongside you."
"Thanks, Xavi, for always being an example, for always putting the group before yourself. Thanks for all your advice."
Xavi announced to the crowd that his wife Nuria Cunillera, who was watching on, is expecting their first child.
