WATCH - Daydreaming official takes out a number of 1,500m runners in hilarious fail Newsdesk Newsdesk

An official caused consternation during a 1,500m race in California yesterday.

He was nonchalantly walking across the track during the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto not realising that the runners were fast approaching.

He took out a number of runners as he tried desperately to evade the competitors.

British athlete Michael Rimmer was one of the runners affected but he saw the funny side.

Oklahoma State's Joshua Thompson avoided the carnage and went on to win the race.
