Video: When Jonah Lomu shocked punters in a Dublin bar with brilliant prank
Jonah Lomu's last visit to Ireland came just before the World Cup and he had a very special treat for fans.
Visitors to Dublin’s Harry Byrnes pub encountered an unexpected guest in the form of all-time Rugby World Cup record try-scorer, Lomu.
The Kiwi great, who sadly passed away on Tuesday aged 40, had a surprise or two in store at the Clontarf venue, in his role as an official HEINEKEN ambassador to help launch the ‘It’s Your Call’ Rugby World Cup 2015 campaign.
Guests at Harry Byrnes were the first to get a taste of the unpredictability of the coin flip, with Lomu hiding inside what they thought was a regular vending machine, and offering up some customised gifts that left everyone scratching their heads. Ireland rugby hero Shane Horgan was on hand to reveal the true identity of the contents of the vending machine – much to the surprise and amusement of our rugby fans!
"The Irish are known for their sense of humour across the world, so I was delighted to put that to the test," Lomu said. "Seeing peoples’ faces as they tried to figure out what was going on was a real highlight.”
