Video: Robbie Keane and his LA Galaxy team mates donate $50k to Crumlin Children's Hospital
Robbie Keane met with sick children at Our Lady's Children's Hospital in his native Crumlin today as he handed over a cheque for $50,000 donated by the American sponsor of his team, LA Galaxy.
The Ireland International Captain and LA Galaxy captain was with LA Galaxy team mates as he did a tour of the wards and met delighted young fans.
Afterwards, he did interviews and spoke of how his career is going, saying that he is looking forward to Stephen Gerrard joining Galaxy "as an addition" rather than as captain.
He revealed that his young son, Robert jnr (4) is joining a team shortly, adding: "He shows potential".
As ambassador for CMRF - the fundraising arm of Our Lady's Hospital, Keane said that he had been delighted to get the support of the LA Galaxy Foundation and their sponsor, Herballife.
"My family is from Crumlin and Our Lady's hospital is a very special place for me so its wonderful to be involved."
Later, Keane donned a suit and joined the Galaxy squad for a special reception at Aras an Uachtarain to meet President Michael D Higgins.
The President paid special tribute to Keane as the player who had scored the most goals for his country, saying: "that's a tribute to Robbie and not a comment on the other players."
