New Zealand World Cup winner Sonny Bill Williams has caused a major stir on Twitter by posting images of dead Syrian children on Twitter.
Williams visited the Lebanon in his capacity as a UNICEF ambassador earlier this month, where he met with families fleeing the conflict in Syria, and tweeted the images with the message: "What did these children do to deserve this? This summer share a thought for the innocent lives lost everyday in war."
It is clear that his experiences have affected him but his actions have been criticised.
UNICEF spokesperson Patrick Rose told the New Zealand Herald: "We see it as a fundamental infringement of those children's rights."
Williams made international headlines at the Rugby World Cup in October when he gave his winner's medal to a young pitch invader who was tackled by stadium security at Twickenham following the All Blacks' 34-17 victory over Australia.
