Sol Campbell has caused controversy on Twitter, getting #TeamLiam to trend, even though he has nothing to do with One Direction.

The ex-England player criticised the service he received from a man named Liam at the Cambridge Street Cafe on his Twitter account.

He said: "Such terrible service from Liam at @CambridgeStCafe this morning! I will not be going back there again!"

This caused football fans to leap to Liam's defence.

They started the hashtag #TeamLiam, to berate Mr. Campbell for his rudeness.

The waiter in question responded through the cafe's official account to thank the public for their support: "Liam here - thanks for all the love and support #teamliam"

He has been branded a 'grass' for calling out a specific worker.

Fans did not think that Liam needed to apologise to the "odd man".

Many of the football fans appear to be Spurs supporters.

Liam's supporters also left him positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

We have contacted Liam for comment, in order to get to the bottom of this rather bizarre story.
