'Potentially great news for England' – Ireland and England fans react to Jack Grealish snub
Not surprisingly the news that Jack Grealish has decided not to be part of the Ireland squad for the upcoming friendly with England has been met with mixed reaction from both sides of the pond.
It was widely expected that the gifted Aston Villa teenager would finally link up with the senior squad after starring at U-21 level for the friendly international.
However, as Martin O'Neill's press conference was due to kick off at midday, something appeared to have occurred with rumour and speculation that O’Neill had been in contact with Grealish.
What happened during that contact is unclear but it appears that one of the sides had a major change of heart.
"I spoke to both Jack and his father and Jack didn't want to make up his mind at this stage," said O'Neill.
O'Neill admitted that he was left disappointed by the decision, but still thinks "there is a good possibility" he will play for Ireland.
Fans on both side of the English Channel had their say on Twitter with the player himself coming in for some over-the-top abuse on Twitter.
Here is a flavour of the reaction.
