Paul O'Connell has captained Ireland to a record-equalling 10 successive wins but another accolade has been haunting him all week.

A poll revealed last week that O'Connell is Ireland's sexiest player and it appears that heavy lies the crown.

"I can't believe you're joining the group that have been slagging me," O'Connell told a BBC Sport Northern Ireland reporter who brought up the subject.

"I've been on the back foot about this all week."

The reporter Thomas Niblock later said: "I can tell you I was afraid asking that question, I was waiting for a punch in the gob."

Ireland player Andrew Trimble joked that his Ulster team-mate Tommy Bowe is "gutted" after missing out on the award.

"Tommy really thought this was going to be his year to win the sexiest rugby player in Ireland so he hasn't left the house. He's very disappointed.

"I know that Tommy is very, very gutted."
