Lucky Galway punter scoops more than €200k from €1 football accumulator
Norwich midfielder Bradley Johnson is being toasted in parts of Galway after his winning goal five minutes from time secured one gambler €206,000 as part of a 17-game accumulator.
Bookmakers Paddy Power were forced into their biggest pay-out from a football accumulator this year when the bet placed through their iPhone app came through.
The punter chose games from the Champions League, Championship and League One, and incredibly was essentially waiting on just one result with 16 of the 17 games decided by the 52nd minute.
Canaries vice-captain Johnson struck with five minutes to go at Ewood Park to secure the enormous windfall.
"His bank manager will certainly be wondering what is going on today," a Paddy Power spokesperson told Independent.ie.
"Last night was a bit of a blood bath for us with 15 of the 17 favourites winning. Juventus and Barcelona were heavily backed and that had a knock-on effect."
"Many of us place €1 bets from time to time, but for a bet of this size to come true like this is just ridiculous.
"Normally you would be a bag of nerves waiting on games, but he was just waiting on the Norwich match at Blackburn.
"We doubt he's have to buy a Snackbox in Galway ever again."
