Irish politician says Chelsea should be punished by playing remainder of European matches with white players only
As expected, a minority of Chelsea fans have been vilified on social media today following last night's disgusting footage which showed some of their fans pushing a black man off the metro while singing "we're racist".
The club themselves moved quickly to condemn those involved, stating that they will be banned from future Chelsea games. And on Twitter, many have picked up on the irony that black players have played a crucial role in Chelsea's success in the past, in particular Didier Drogba who clinched the Champions League title for the Londoners in 2012.
Last night, Chelsea fielded two black players in Ramires and Willian while Drogba and Loic Remy were on the bench and this prompted Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin to come up with an alternative way to punish Chelsea.
"To satisfy/punish their fans, Chelsea should play out the rest of the season with only white English players. (Do they have 11 of them?)" he tweeted.
