Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be wearing a brand new pair of Nike boots this weekend, but the immediate reaction to the multi-coloured footwear has not been overly positive.
The England international will hope to rediscover his goal scoring form when the Red Devils host struggling Sunderland and Rooney was keen to show off the Nike Electro Flare Hypervenom boots that will make their Premier League debut this weekend.
Sure to be a big seller in the Christmas market, Nike's contracted players will be donning the footwear in the lead-up to the festive period.
"Can't wait to wear my new Electro Flare boots on the pitch #Hypervenom @nikefootball," he posted on his official account, with many of the replies not impressed by the boots.
"Wayne, need to have a word, they are horrific," replied one user.
"Sh** they are horrible looking!! A pair of black boots would stand out today amongst all those carnival colours," said another, while one tweet said simply "not sure I have seen an uglier football boot..."
Rooney has been struggling for form in the early stages of the campaign, with one tweet alluding to as much with the following: "Might improve your 1st touch ey Wayne."
