Gary Neville and Liverpool fan in epic Twitter battle
Last season Jamie Carragher had a wager with his Sky Sports colleague Neville over the goalscoring form of Spurs midfielder Paulinho, who arrived at White Hart Lane two years ago for just under £17m.
The 24-year-old was supposed to be a key component as Tottenham set about remodelling the first team following Gareth Bale's £85m departure for Real Madrid.
And after a disappointing first season in which Paulinho scored just six league goals, Carragher backed the Brazilian to find his scoring boots and hit 15 goals during his second year in north London.
But the Spurs man drew a blank in the top flight last season, scoring just two across all competitions, and Carragher must pay the price.
Neville tweeted: "Jamie Carragher needs to wear a G.Nev united shirt for the day! He's lost a bet that Paulinho wouldn't score 15 PL goals in a season!"
But Carragher tweeted a picture of himself with two Manchester United fans today, saying: "This is as good as your going to get ."
This prompted one Liverpool fan, David Thompson, to tweet to Carragher: "Don't even dare put that sh*t stained rag on Carra...you'll catch all manner of diseases!!"
Thompson probably felt proud to get his opinion in but Neville was quick to come back and put him in his place.
"Worth a try he might catch that disease called " Winning" and spread it through your lot!," quipped Neville.
Not to be outdone though, Thompson hit back with some fine tweeting of his own.
"You finished 4th Gary, its hardly 'winning' is it!"
