Costly Keane - Martin O'Neill loses wager over Roy Keane questioning
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill joked that he lost his bet regarding the first question at today's press conference as it didn't focus on Roy Keane.
The Ireland assistant manager is at the centre of an investigation from Manchester police after a complaint was made by a taxi driver who claims Keane became verbally aggressive when he suggested the former Manchester United star should "smile" as they both sat in parked cars in the upmarket Manchester suburb of Hale on Friday morning.
Speaking at a FAI launch today where a sponsorship deal with Spar was announced, the first question posed to O'Neill was his reflection on the European qualification campaign thus far.
With a wry smile, O'Neill seemed amused that the hot topic had been over-looked at the start of the press conference.
"I've lost my bet with Peter [Sherrard, FAI Director of Communications]," he joked, before adding that it was said in jest.
"I didn't have a bet with him, I was kidding," he insisted.
