Conor McGregor has given a hilarious reaction to the news that a petition to have his face put on Irish €1 coins was deemed inadmissible by the Oireachtas.

Oireachtas committee said it cannot take any action because they do not know who submitted the request.

The Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions considered the request during a meeting this afternoon.

However, Committee Chairman Sinn Fein’s Padraig Mac Lochlainn said there was no name on the petition so he had to deem the request inadmissible.

He advised the petitioner to contact the Central Bank so as to establish the European Union rules on producing commemorative coins.

“Whatever people think of the merits of the petition, I’m glad it drew public attention to our work,” Mr Mac Lochlainn said.

The UFC featherweight champion, who will fight for the lightweight belt against Rafael Dos Anjos in Las Vegas on March 5, had asked that the petition to be considered and gave a very funny verdict on the decision on Twitter this evening.

Referencing the infamous Dail exchange between Paul Gogarty and Emmet Stagg in 2009, McGregor wrote: "Well fuck you Deputy Stagg (followed by a series of laughing emojis)."
