Conor McGregor has been 'caught out' on Instagram for posting a photo of him relaxing on his jet, reading the newspaper - upside down.

The UFC fighter, who recently became the first man to hold titles across multiple weight divisions, began toying with his 8.9million followers on Saturday.

It remains unclear whether McGregor has used the upside-down newspaper in this way to represent its meaninglessness as a prop in this photograph, or whether it constitutes a subtle, subconscious rebellion against the materialism the MMA fighter so regularly champions.

It could also, possibly, just be an embarrassing mistake on McGregor's part.

Those choosing to focus on McGregor's reading habits have failed to observe the main thrust of the post - namely, the fighter's wearing of his pyjamas on his personal jet.

The essential point - that 'Mystic Mac' can do pretty much whatever he wants as a multiple UFC champion, particularly on the kind of jet engine this writer certainly doesn't anticipate seeing the inside of any time soon - lies herein. And very wittily he conveys it, too.

"Wearing my Pj's on the P.J (sic)," wrote McGregor in the caption.

If you remain unconvinced, how about the fact that McGregor only used his private jet in the first place to get to some fried chicken. Dubious, some might say, but there aren't many other reasons why he might want to go to Tenerife.

McGregor took the lightweight title off Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November, having been featherweight champion since December 2015 when he defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 194.

Having not defended the latter title despite mounting pressure to do so, UFC insisted McGregor vacate due to his inactivity.

Other career paths opening up to The Notorious include WWE. However, amid speculation of a match-up with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, McGregor has been issued with a boxing licence by the US state of California.
