Brendan Rodgers may have lost his job as Liverpool manager, but it merely provided more ammunition for the popular parody account ‘Deluded Brendan’.

Following the 1-1 draw with Evertron in the Merseyside derby, Liverpool announced that Rodgers had left the club with immediate effect, less than five months after owners Fenway Sports Group gave their backing to the Northern Irishman after a woeful end to the 2014-15 campaign.

With more than 313,000 followers on Twitter, ‘Deluded Brendan’ has gained a cult following on social media, and yesterday sent a series of tweets following the Liverpool announcement.

From following Sunderland – also manager-less after Dick Advocaat left the club at the weekend – and asking Jobsite UK for a follow back, there was no shortage of light-hearted commentary from the account.

Enquiries were made at Tescos for a job, while Deluded Brendan remained defiant despite the major setback.

“And don't worry this account won't be going anywhere. I'll still be here when Real Madrid FC come knocking.  Failing that Newcastle will do,” was tweeted in the immediate aftermath of the sacking.

A tweet that read: “After 3 years of solid improvement the time is right to step down as manager of Liverpool. I've outgrown this club and need a new challenge” received more than 18,000 retweets and 11,000 favourites.
