Jonathan Rea sets new lap record on way to pole in Qatar
World Superbike champion Jonathan Rea blitzed the competition to set a new lap record and take pole position at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
The Kawasaki rider, who topped every practice session, continued his dominance to secure his sixth pole of the campaign with a time of 1m56.228s.
He was almost half a second ahead of the chasing pack, with Alex Lowes taking second on the grid for Pata Yamaha, ahead of Rea's Kawasaki team-mate Tom Sykes.
Italian Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) recovered from two falls during practice to head up the second row, while Spaniard Xavi Flores was fifth and Savadori's team-mate Eugene Laverty was sixth.
Dutchman Michael van der Mark clinched seventh, ahead of Aruba.it Racing Ducati pair Chaz Davies and Marco Melandri.
Superpole 1 graduate Sylvain Guintoli (Puccetti Kawasaki) claimed 10th on the grid, finishing in front of Jordi Torres on the Althea BMW and Leon Camier on the MV Agusta.
