John Martin RIP

John Martin
John Martin

JOHN MARTIN, who died suddenly last Friday, was a prominent member of the Irish Independent sports' reporters team for many years.

John was first appointed to the staff in 1980. He was our greyhound correspondent for many years and he also covered Irish soccer and snooker extensively, as well as specialising in the role of arbitrator in disputes involving bookmakers and punters via his popular 'Punters' Platform' column.

In more recent years he has been associated with the 'Irish Daily Star' and the 'Irish Mail on Sunday,' while he also penned two greyhound publications, 'Ger McKenna on Greyhounds' and 'Tales Of The Dogs'.

John will be sadly missed by all his former and recent colleagues but particularly by his family, wife Patricia, son Byron and daughters Alison and Heidee.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later in the week.

May he rest in peace.
