Wicklow firepower blows Sligo away

Wicklow 5-16 Sligo 2-2

A potent full-forward line, which accounted for a whopping 5-10 between them, proved decisive as Wicklow easily powered their way to a 23-point win over a disappointing Sligo at The Downs on Saturday evening.

A brace of goals from Gavin Weir and another from Stephen Cody helped Wicklow go in at the interval ahead by 3-6 to 1-1, the Sligo goal coming courtesy of a 16th-minute penalty converted by captain Gary Cadden.

The one-way traffic continued on the change of ends despite Ross McCarrick's goal midway through the second half.

Outstanding Wicklow skipper Mikey Lee led by example, firing home two further goals, and the full-forward also displayed superb accuracy from placed balls throughout.
