Wexford snub wives

WEXFORD hurler Dave Guiney has boycotted the team's holiday to San Francisco in protest against their decision not to allow the players' wives and girlfriends on the trip.

The players decided to exclude their partners from the nine-day holiday which began last weekend, a decision which Guiney described as "thoughtless".

The 33-year-old defender, who fought his way back to fitness following a series of career threatening injuries, said: "I am married with three young children and was only able to play because my wife Brenda took my share of the responsibilities at home.

"This year, Wexford trained four nights a week and sometimes with meetings and extra physio this was extended to six nights. It takes a major toll on family life."
