Watson on double in Milford's finest hour

Milford 3-6 Killimor 1-6 Daragh O Conchuir All-Ireland Club Camogie final Castlegar 1-8 The Rower-Inistioge 1-6 All-Ireland inter Camogie final

A Resolute defensive performance, fronted by player of the match Sarah Sexton, Anna Geary and team captain Elaine O'Riordan, was at the core of Milford's historic title-winning display at Croke Park.

The north Cork girls weren't at their best, but such was their overall work ethic that they managed to completely snuff out the considerable threat of Killimor duo Brenda Hanney and Martina Conroy.

Two goals from Maria Watson and another by Deirdre O'Reilly augmented those defensive efforts to ensure Milford had a night to remember.

It was their quick-fire double in the space of a minute that blew this game wide open.

The first was a wonderfully crafted effort, as county football star O'Reilly didn't even have to break stride to crash the sliotar to the net in the 20th minute after a visionary pass from the outstanding Marie O'Neill.

Watson scrambled a second almost immediately after and Milford led 2-4 to 0-5 at half-time. Watson then finished expertly from a Regina Curtin pass in the 41st minute and Frank Flannery's charges saw the game out comfortably from there.

Killimor kept plugging away but never threatened to breach the outstanding Milford rearguard until Hanney buried a brilliant goal in the 59th minute.

Aislinn Connolly scored all bar one of her side's points as Castlegar secured the intermediate crown at Donaghmore-Ashbourne.

A Lizzie Lyng goal helped The Rower-Inistioge into a 1-2 to 0-1 lead, but Connolly planted a 20-metre free to the net to leave the sides level at the break on 1-3 apiece.

Three frees from the outstanding Kelly Hamilton propelled the Kilkenny champions to a two-point lead with 10 minutes remaining but they failed to score again as Castlegar finished the stronger, three points from Connolly and another from Katie Connell securing the honours.
