DJ Carey has cleared the air arising from confusion over reports linking him to the vacant Waterford hurling manager's job.

He said that he had been approached by the Abbeyside-Ballinacourty club to consider allowing his name going forward but it was not a real option.

"I thought about it but it's not for me at this stage. I was flattered to be approached but it just wasn't a runner for me and, in fairness to all concerned, it's best to come straight out and say that.

"I would not want to in any way interfere with the process of Waterford appointing a team manager by leaving my name in for a job that I couldn't take anyway at this point."

Carey has a busy schedule ahead, which effectively rules out inter-county team management in the short to medium term.
