Tipp move closer to Munster clean sweep
TIPPERARY claimed a first provincial title at this grade since 2002 with a hard-fought victory in Nenagh last night.
And now just Clare stand between Tipp and a Munster hurling 'clean sweep' as the two counties look ahead to the U-21 final on August 8.
Tipp added the intermediate crown to their minor and senior titles in front of 2,236 spectators last night, with Kieran Morris and David Butler hitting 1-12 between them.
And this victory puts Tipp straight through to an All-Ireland final clash with Kilkenny or Galway.
Clare battled gamely until the finish but shot themselves in the foot by registering nine wides in the second half.
At the break, Tipp were 1-10 to 0-10 clear; Butler's scrambled goal in the final minute of the first period proving crucial.
