Thurles finish with a flourish

Thurles CBS 0-14 Blackwater CS 0-11

SUBSTITUTE Michael Cussen and Stephen Cahill sent over late points to finally kill off Blackwater's dogged challenge in Clonmel and keep Thurles' hopes alive.

Thurles, who had lost their opening game to St Flannan's, took the lead just before the interval and some excellent scores by Kevin Slattery, Conor Lanigan and wing-back Ciaran Quirke kept their noses in front.

Blackwater, with David O'Brien, David Geary, Jamie Barron and 'keeper Sean Barry impressing, refused to lie down.

However, Thurles finished the stronger and secured victory with a brilliant long-range effort from Ciaran Quirke and those late scores from Cussen and Cahill.
