Stamp a doubt for Model decider
WEXFORD’S Darren Stamp has emerged as a doubt for the Model County’s NHL Division 2 final with Clare on Sunday week with a knee injury.
The Oulart-the Ballagh club man aggravated the problem in the clash with Laois and missed last Sunday’s win over Antrim.
Attacker Willie Doran is set to be sidelined for at least another four weeks with a dislocated elbow but Paul Roche is expected to take his place in the full-back line for the decider after a groin problem.
Tyrone assistant manager Tony Donnelly has admitted that their relaxed approach to early-season training may have played a part in their relegation in the NFL.
They have only recently stepped up to two collective sessions per week as they gear up for their Ulster championship opener against Antrim.
“Possibly we paid the price for that in terms of not being as sharp or as fit as other teams,” Donnelly said. “But we have to look at the bigger picture at times. If you put too much energy into it now, possibly you won’t have enough to call upon later in the year.”
The Connacht council have postponed Saturday’s MFC clash between Galway and New York in Pearse Stadium as the American side couldn’t fulfil the fixture due to ongoing travel constraints. The match will now be played on May 9 at the Galway venue at 6.30.
