Sampson completes late rescue act

Injury-time goals from Adrian Cleary and Shane Sampson earned Colaiste Phobal Roscrea victory over neighbours Borrisokane in the last ever final of this competition.

Roscrea played second fiddle for long stages of the game in Dolla and were kept scoreless from play until the first minute of injury-time when Cleary found the back of the net to put his side in front.

Sub Sampson added the clincher two minutes later to seal Colaiste Phobal's eighth provincial title and break Borrisokane hearts.

Borrisokane had dictated the play throughout but never put Roscrea away, with five of their nine wides coming from placed balls, misses which ultimately proved costly.

With the Vocational and Colleges bodies merging for the 2013-14 season, it was fitting that the two schools which topped the roll of honour met in the last final in its current guise.
