Ryan and Collins lead UL stroll into semi-finals
UL 2-30 WIT 1-20
UL crushed WIT with a second-half push led by Clare duo Conor Ryan and Podge Collins at Carriganore.
Ryan delivered four points from right half-back while Collins struck 1-1 in the second half. Ten different scorers contributed to the final haul from Brian Lohan's prolific side, and a whopping 2-22 arrived from play.
WIT started brightly as Thomas Hammill scored within 12 seconds of throw-in. Harry Kehoe and Liam McGrath helped them establish a 0-11 to 0-8 lead but UL struck 1-5 before the break. Brian Stapleton, Padraic Walsh and Tommy Heffernan raised white flags before the latter goaled. Stapleton and Bill Maher tacked on points to leave them four in front at halfway (1-13 to 0-12).
Collins scored UL's second major within four minutes. That was answered immediately by Johnny Hayes to make it 2-15 to 1-13. UL drilled over 15 points from there to the finish, however. They progress to the last four, where they meet Tipperary.
